took a look at the '10 camaro, got to say it is one on the most impressive domestic cars i have seen in a long time. On barrett jackson serial number 000001 sold for 350k i believe. It's nice to see a US made car that actually has some style, something they have been void of for about 40 years. Regardless of its hard stance, subtle 70's throwbacks and clean interior... the engine compartment was an unexpected disappointment. The V8 boasts 423hp, no to shabby... however it lacks the look of an engine. The shroud (painted to match the car) covers the entire block and belts with the air intake (plastic) covering the rest...

Tell me, what is the appeal of a machine that despite its speed and good looks lacks the "machine" aspect. There is no part of that car that links the driver to moving, living parts that give an automobile soul. I could strip naked and roll around on the engine and not get pinched, hurt, or burned. it may feel like a machine, feel fast, and look good... but there is noting that the driver can relate to... you cant see the carbs open, the linkage move from front to back... you cant feel the vibrations of the engine in the elctronic gas pedal, you cant destroy the engine with the heavy right foot... Despite my busses humble 40hp it wouldn't think twice about ripping a finger off in the belt or destroying itself at my wish...

the joy of driving is the link between the driver and the machine. Knowing what parts are doing what when, seeing them, and feeling them... I am sincerely disappointed that despite all the throwbacks to the "glory days" they continue to remove the driver from the machine.

spent the better part of the afternoon working on a the fuel reserve valve on the bus, its the third time i have removed it. The first two were to rebuild it and the third time was to replace it. I figure you just cant have gas dripping on thinks that are hot... regardless aside from some minor adjustment (which will get done tomorrow,) it should provide years of useful service. I like the idea of a fuel reserve. no need for a gas gauge. when you start to sputter, pull the knob and you have about 30 miles to find a station. Makes sense.

been trying to get ready for the show. Not really anything else to do though. make a table (or wait and see if i can find an OG one... picking up an icebox friday afternoon... thursday i think i will tie up some loose ends and then go for a drive. maybe up near ocoee, tellico, i guess we'll find out.

Been thinking a lot about last week's studio 360's interview with "mr. jalopy" (google it.) Really wish that i could make something like that work. I feel like that guy has basically the exact same philosophy as myself when it comes to art, vintage stuff, and technology. If Im going to work like a dog for shitty pay I might as well be perusing my own agenda... right?
